WOW

WoW is the name commonly given to the game World of Warcraft. It is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG also, for its acronym in English) developed by the company Blizzard Entertainment and released in 2004. The player controls an avatar or character, "a virtual body created by users to project their identity and actions in the world [fictional]" (Ducheneaut et al., 2009: 1151). Thhe character is observed in 3rd person, exploring a map, with three possible worlds and interacting with other real players or not. The most frequent tasks for the player are to eliminate monsters and accomplish missions. As with most RPG (role-playing game), there are different races with different professions or roles to choose. Based on this decision, the person will have some other skills with different gameplay options and ways to interact with other players. World of Warcraft is conceived as a precedent in games that offer multiple possibilities when making player decisions in his/her game as, for example, to introduce new information or trace alternative narratives routes. These games are called games of nonlinear narrative.
