1959 Declaration
Declaration of the Rights of the Child adopted on November 20, 1959 unanimously by the 78 countries that then formed the United Nations. Chronologically, it stands as predecessor of the Declaration on the Rights of the Child of 1929 and as a forerunner to the Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989.
The statement consists of ten articles and, in the words of the declaration itself, seeks "that the child can have a happy childhood and enjoy, for his own good, and for the good of society, the rights and freedoms it the articulation "(DDN, 1959)
